At the 2001 Netherlands Antilles census, the population counted 130,627 inhabitants, which means a population density of 294 inhabitants per square kilometre. In 2004 the population was estimated at 133,644 inhabitants. It lies outside the huricane belt.

Insel Air International is the home base carrier of Curacao

The international airport of Curacao lies on the north side of the island, at aproximately 11 kilometres north of the capital of Willemstad. During the last couple of years ample efforts have been taking place to atract tourism whereas the extension and improvement of the airport facilities was considered as first priority. The first phase was completed in 2006, rounded with an opening of the new terminal building. By now Curacao International Airport has become one of the most modern airports in the Caribbean.
